Gulf Restoration Network (GRN) is a non-profit organization made up of an alliance of groups and individuals committed to uniting and empowering people to restore the resources of the Gulf region.

As part of our Gulf Fish Forever campaign, GRN has worked for decades to improve the quality of the Gulf of Mexico, its fish, and the means through which fish are caught. Often times, diverse interests have different ideas about how our fisheries should be managed. GRN is committed to working with our partners to achieve victories for the fish, economy, and coastal culture that bring everyone to the table.

GRN is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as Fisheries Associate. The Fisheries Associate will be focused on building relationships with Chefs, restaurateurs and other stakeholders who care about protecting Gulf fisheries in order to push for science based federal fisheries policy and common sense habitat protections.

Essential Responsibilities

In coordination with GRN’s Campaign Organizer and Campaign Director, the Fisheries Associate will:

Advance GRN Gulf Fish Forever public policy positions through public education and citizen mobilization;
Build relationships with community groups, restaurateurs and other organizations and working with them to achieve GRN fishery objectives;
Develop outreach materials (fact sheets, brochures, presentations);
Organize GRN outreach, workshop, trainings on fisheries issues in Gulf states aimed at identifying and activating key organizations and individuals in the sportsman, fishing, restaurant, outdoor and conservation communities to support GRN’s public policy positions;
Draft and submitting letters-to-the-editor and opinion editorials from members of the conservation community for publication in media outlets;
Monitor and respond to actions related to our core fishery objectives by decision makers, particularly Congress and the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council;
Help organize and facilitate meetings with key decision makers as needed.

Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize.
Ability to function as part of a team and work collaboratively.
Experience in nonprofit advocacy, issue campaigns, planning, organizing, or other related fields.
Ties to or experience working on fishery issues and working in the Gulf south preferred.
Reports to: Campaign Director
Status: Part-time/Non-Exempt
Time-period: Date of hire until December 22, 2017
Location: New Orleans, LA
Salary: $1,100-$1,500 a month.
Hours: Average of 24 hours per week, mostly during regular businesses hours, with occasional nights and weekends as needs arise.
